We are travelling round Europe for a few months and will be posting information about our progress here. We set off very early in the morning on 17th May 2012, (Eurotunnel at silly o'clock) and went to Calais, and "turned right !" We have seen the Normandy Beaches and the Bayeux Tapestry, and the Alpine Meadows of Switzerland/Italy/Austria in flower. Follow our progress by checking out this website.

Today was a bit of a marathon drive, crossing the border into the Netherlands, taking in Nijmegen then Arnhem.
We stopped on the way at Venray (near Venloe) to see the war cemetery. No parking was provided, so being rather large and needing to keep out of the way, we got quite well...

Douaumont National Cemetery, Ossuary, and Fort, and into Belgium

Off to the national Cemetery and Ossuary at Douaumont, near Verdun (France). The Cemetery is vast, with 15000 graves, mostly French or French Colonial. One section was muslim graves, whose headstones faced east, which puts them out of line with the other graves, and makes a poignant sight....
