Graz to Melk

Today we thought we would look for LPG, and at a garage we were told, none in Graz, only on the Autobahns, but then we found some just as we got towards Melk.

The route we had planned from Graz to Melk appeared to be straightforward "A" roads, but one section was special dual carriageway requiring a vignette (we didn´t have) so slight detour to an alternative road on the other side of the river. We were a bit surprised when this deteriorated into little more than a gravel track. After losing our way slightly in roadworks and a new bridge is under construction, back on route more by luck than judgement. We reached the lower Austrian Alpine pass, back into hairpins again, not just numbered this time, but also named!  Over the pass and an easy run down into Melk.

Tonights aire was in a pub garden  - yes, really! Just getting settled, and two more BRITISH motorhomes turned up, on hte way home from an Eastern European tour. A little late, yet another van turned up, Swedish this time.

The pub owner said he only usually gets one motorhome at a time, and hardly ever sees British travellers, let alone three at once!

The other motorhomers gave us some very useful info about Vienna, including GPS co-ordinates for a good campsite, and city maps.

The next morning we visited Melk abbey, and as it was so crowded, we were having to push through guided tours, so in the end it was easier to just attach ourselves to an English group! The library here is amazing with 16000 identically bound volumes in 10 rooms, and the town is quite pretty too.
