Krimml Falls
First thing in the morning we walked down to the falls, and straight in at 9.30. There was a climb of 350 metres from 1090 to 1460 metres over a distance of approx 3 km (kill-o-metres) but wow, was it worth the climb.! Every superlative is not enough to do this justice - torrent after torrent over rocks and waterfalls, rainbows in the spray, and a deafening roar. Glad we got in early, it became much more crowded on our way down.
Stopped for tea and Strudel at a cafe where we were served by a waitress in Lederhosen.
We drove on towards Graz, using the alternative route to the Großglockner: this is called the Felbertauern: again a toll, but only 10E this time. On this road we saw some "moutain road works" going: a big queue of traffic, completely stationery, a man on an abseil road at the top of the cliff above, chipping away loose rocks from the edge, while others were busy with brooms on the road.
Found our aire for the night at Ziebl-Zlatt, a village in the middle of nowhere, parking in the orchard of a delightful farm, with home produced bacon and bread rolls the next morning from the farmhouse. The bacon was dry cured, and at least 1/4 inch thick. Yum.
