Liechtenstein - Austria - Germany.
Drove into Vaduz, and found a slightly dodgy-almost too short- parking space, but at least it was free for the first hour (unheard of !). Spent a couple of hours wandering round the town. Lots of sculptures on the main street, and pavement art depicting postage stamps. Stamps seem to be a big thing in Liechtenstein. They produce 10-12 sets each year, all on different themes. Leichtenstein Cathedral is very simple, unlike many of the churches we have seen so far. It is dedicated to St Florin, and his statue features the florin on a shield on his chest. The country is pretty expensive to suit it!
Drove on into Austria as this is the only way to get to Oberstdorf, which is actually in Germany. Nobody at Customs\passpost control.
Oberstdorf is much bigger than we expected, but all very ski-orientated even at this time of year, they are still ski training and using the ski jump on the dry surface. Found the TIC, as always the staff sare very helpful. We found the information we were looking for including free maps and guides, and had a good laugh with the lady about the Swiss German Dialect: they find it almost as strange as we do !
The Aire was very large, and the vast majority were German motorhomes, with a couple of Dutch, and us. Had a bit of a moment at the local supermarket. Found prices really reasonable, so got more than we intended. Got to the till, and they wouldn´t take our Euro card (oops) or bank card (oops) or even credit card (AAAGH). Had to leave the shopping, walk to the station to get cash out, and run back in the rain to get the shopping. It rains heavily here !
