Swiss dip into Italy, and Liechtenstein.

Found European Diocesan Church of St Edward the confessor in Lugano: fantastic welcome from everyone, and I think they are always glad to see a new face.  I even got to play the organ after the sevice. Tea and cake in Casa Benson (an ex- pension attached to the church. )Drove from there across into Italy. As usual, no passport control, all the usual two wheeled transport, mad motorcyclists and even nuttier cyclists. Roads really narrow with no stopping places. Followed signs for a campsite at Bondo:  the road just got narrower and narrower, but when we got there site was good (apart from the sawmill next door which started up at 06.30 !)

Headed the next day for the city of Chur, and intending to go via San Moritz and the Albula Pass. We were going to try and get a photo of the bus in front of somewhere posh in San Moritz, but the traffic was absolute bedlam, with nowhere to stop. Carried on towards the pass, but could not go up there, and there was a height restriction of 2.6m, so we had to go the long way round. Very picturesque, but hairpins were awful.

Got to Chur, and there didn´t seem to be anywhere to park. All town parking is covered with height restrictions: bought half an hour outside the town hall: quick breather and time to go.

Straight off into Liechtenstein. Hideously expensive campsites, with all the taxes etc, worked out nearly 40 Francs per night. Went up a tiny country lane, after a climb of about 20 minutes, found a Restplatz, no restrictions on any signs. There was a picnic bench, a loo, water fountain, and a view, all for free.

There has been lots of haymaking going on in all the villages for the past week or so. Many of the hills are too steep for a conventional or tractor mower, so they still scythe and rake by hand. We sat this evening and watched 3 men (and a very exuberant collie) scything on the opposite hillside.
