Vienna

We used the satnav coordinates we had got, and drove on the motorway with our new vignette.  As we intend to spend several days in Vienna, and make it an admin stop, we have found a campsite with washing machine etc.

We walked to the nearest U-bahn station and got a 48 hour ticket and got into the centre in a few minutes. This is a busy vibrant city: groups of buskers including dulcimer players,  human statues and a capella singers.

Sunday, attended church at Christ Church Vienna, Anglican Episcopal. On the way there we passed a Polish service where they were crowded round the doors outside: standing room only! Lovely service, and very accomplished choir.

We popped into the Stephansdom, but it was screened off for a concert, so we found the most notable thing was the roof!

Partly to avoid ticket touts - of which there are hundreds- we turned completely grockle and took a red bus tour. This showed us all the main sights including the Hundertwasser House, built 1979-85 avoiding straight lines - amazing architecture. After that, we needed an icecream, so we stopped at Mozart, one of the most elegant cafes, with humidifiers fitted into the umbrellas. Suitably refreshed we thought a museum might be in order. We could have chosen from: Museum of Esperanto, Museum of Torture, and even the Museum of Abortion.  In the end we decided on the Haus der musik. When we got the ticket, they said it would take 1 1/2 to 2 hours, but after two and a half hours we were still barely halfway round, and it was starting to get late, although they didn´t shut till 10pm, we were starting to flag. Sausage and bread from a street vendor on the way back to the train seemed in order.

A bit of a breeze got up later in the evening, which aired the van after it being shut all day in the heat.
